Work location - Chennai.
Experience
3 to 12 years of experience in embedded systems development with engineering degree in Electrical / Electronics & Communication engineering or any other circuit branch.
DESCRIPTION
This person will be responsible for porting of Android to various mobile and non mobile devices. He/She will be part of the team that has responsibility for understanding the various hardware target platforms available in the market, develop strategy for porting kernel, integration, testing, delivery and maintenance of high quality Android OS for the chosen hardware platform.
RESPONSIBILITIES
o Understand commonly used hardware platforms in mobile and non mobile industry and choose 2 or 3 platforms for porting the Android.
o Develop porting strategy for Android kernel porting to chosen target platforms
o Generate porting requirements from data sheet of hardware controllers
o Develop or adapt device drivers, HAL and middleware/framework in the Android Stack for industry specific peripherals
o Port the standard Kernel to target hardware platforms
o Validate porting at Kernel level
o Configuration and adaptation of boot loaders
o Integrate ported Kernel into Android platform and validate integration
o Setup target hardware platforms along with required tools (IDE, Debugger)
o Porting activities should be in compliance with HCL OMS and generate all required documentation
o Porting/adapting the Dalvik VM to hardware target platform
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
o Embedded software development experience using 'C'
o Experience in developing embedded systems using various RTOS using micro-controllers
o Experience with Embedded Linux operating system (RedHat /Fedora /Ubuntu /Suse /uc / MontaVista/ RT Linux) at Kernel level
o Ability to troubleshoot code utilizing IDE and Debugger tools (GDB, KDBG, etc)
o Experience in developing device drivers under Linux environment
o Software development process experience with multiple tool chains (Ex.: Eclipse IDE)
o Experience in customizing/adapting Linux Kernel 2.6.x to target platform
o Experience in adapting/configuring boot loaders (UBOOT, BLOB etc.)
DESIRED SKILLS
o Experience with Android concepts, Android SDK
o Excellent communication and inter personal skills required. There will be many team meetings and platform vendor meetings to discuss issues and the project status. This person must work well with other engineers in a team environment.
o Self-motivation, tenacity, and determination are very useful in this position.
o Very good learning skills to understand technical trends and opportunities in RTOS market space
