Engineering Development Manager
at Social Commerce Product Startup in Mumbai in Mumbai
Broad Responsibilities:
• Act as the primary technical leader for a web based product
• Confer with management and engineers to discuss project specifications and procedures.
• Coordinate and direct team, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
• Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
• Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
• Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed.
• Set scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management.
• Make sure: product scalability, uptime, hardware scalability and third-party software availability.
• Solve complicated technological and algorithmic challenges keeping in mind the long-term technical and scalability requirements of the product
• Keep senior management informed about new suitable technologies emerging and acquiring/introducing new technologies for performance enhancements of the product
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
• Hands on with product engineers helping them to understand immediate tasks, timelines and long-term goals
• Programming critical sections when required
• Finding elegant but quick solutions to technical problems
• Testing and overseeing new releases
• Deligate work to engineers
Technical skillset requirement:
• Proficient in PHP/MySQL/Javascripting/Smarty/Shell
• Proficient in Linux operating system.
• Proficient in setting up webservers, server security measures, cloud servers.
• Expert in MVC architecture, OOPS concepts, MySQL procedures
• Excellent in Algorithms
• Sound understanding of System Architecture Design / Database Architecture Design
• Sound understanding of programming best practices, programming standards, code commenting and documentation
• Good understanding of test scripts, webserver load testing, load balancers, database load testing, distributed architecture
• Good understanding of Rest APIs, RPC protocols
• Preferred : knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages – Python/Ruby/Haskell
• Preferred: knowledge of Facebook and Twitter API integration.
Education & Experience:
• MS/Mtech/Btech/BSc/BE in Computer Sciences and related studies.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in working on web based products
• Minimum 4+ years Total experience in web development
• Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Team Lead
• Demonstrated technical skills and experience in high traffic ,algorithmically challenging web projects.
• Proven strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage and drive closure to technical challenges.
• Need to be a Team player who loves to program, solve problems, groom juniors and continuously learn without worrying much about formal working hours.
• Should be a very pleasant person to work with.
