Data Engineer
Position Overview
The Data Engineer will work closely with the web application developers and systems engineers to develop and maintain data driven processes for key web site features.
You must be able to work in a creative, highly flexible environment with quickly changing requirements. This is a web-centric environment and requires the ability to design and build highly scalable data-driven solutions anddevelop/maintain extract-transform-load (ETL) tasks. Must have the ability to work in a distributed network using modern development techniques.
You must be able to clearly and succinctly communicate with technical and non-technical staff.
Essential Job Functions – 3 to 5 years’ experience doing the following:
• Data base types include: Oracle 10gR2/11gR2, MySQL 5.0 / 5.1, noSQL databases (Cassandra, Big Table, Hadoop, etc.).
• Tools: Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, JAVA, PERL
• Logical table design, data flow design and documentation
• Ability to manage your time and deliverables
• Ability to organize long-running complex projects while maintaining zero-downtime.
• Familiarity in working with Open Source tools and products.
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with peers and management.
• Query tuning and optimization skills.
Other Requirements
• Documentation skills to clearly communicate status and plans.
• Communication skills (both written and oral) must be superb.
• Team-oriented individual focused on company goals and efforts.
• Use database tools and techniques with a focus on moving large data volumes
Desired Skills
Knowledge of Open Systems toolsets
Linux systems skills (programming, shell scripting, package management, etc.)
